From an order to a component: the kinematic model of the gearbox turns a frequency into a name.
An order is a number. A cause is a component you can machine differently, and getting from one to the other needs the kinematics of the train. The model proposes which elements could produce the line that was measured; the measurement then decides between those candidates, across operating points, rather than being read for a pattern that confirms a hunch.
